A DAY LATE, LEVI KIEFER WINS SUMMIT MODIFIED RACE
By Bruce Crowley and Teri Kellum

Elko, NV…Pahrump driver Levi Kiefer was only a day late and a dollar short, or rather $2000 short, as he won the IMCA feature race Saturday night after finishing 11th the previous night at the Pot of Gold race. Starting on the outside front row, the former Pahrump Valley Speedway champion was in control from the green flag to the checkered. His main competition came from Denny Robblee and the previous night’s winner Randy Artz. Kiefer thrilled the fans with his high-flying, left front wheel in the air cornering maneuver. Robblee kept up the pressure on Kiefer until the 26th lap, when Artz took over the second place position and chased Kiefer to the checkered. Artz finished second, Robblee third, track point leader Wade Taylor fourth, and fifth was Cory Sample. Heat races were won by Joe Hood, Robblee, and Sample.

Defending ECAR Pro Stock champion Brian Thorp turned in a sparkler in the feature as he went wire-to-wire to record his third win of the season at Summit. He defeated John Levi, winner of the previous event two weeks ago, and Jimmy Delaney. Point leader George Quintana ended his night with his second yellow flag infraction that sent him to the pits and was awarded last place points. Levi won the earlier heat race.

In ECAR Mini Mod action, defending champ Mike Fietzek looked like a sure winner during the first 19 circuits, but unfortunately for him, the race lasted 20 laps. :

Coming out of turn 4 on the final lap, Lamoille driver Dennis Pruitt won a drag race to the finish. Fietzek was second, followed by Lee Bosch and Jack Hammond. Pruitt also won the heat race. Lee Bosch won the trophy dash.

Elko teenager Geoffrey Bullock got by Shalynn Guthrie with five laps to go to post his sixth Gen-X feature win of the season. Heather Bame finished third. Bullock and Cody Maier took heat race wins.

James Lister turned into Jack the Bear in the Pure stock division as he turned in a wire-to-wire victory over Dustin Greenwood. Lister also won the heat race.

The next races will be held August 18 and August 31.
